One issue that many people deal with when fixing their car by themselves or having a car repair center fix their car is what type of auto parts they'll be using. You can find fundamentally two types of automobile parts that can be used to fix a car, plus they both will be discussed, as well as the pros and drawbacks of using each type of auto part.
The first kind of automobile part that comes to mind when repairing one's car is OEM vehicle parts. The term "OEM" stands for "oe manufacturer," and this means that OEM auto parts come straight from the company that made the automobile in the first place. Quite simply, if someone's Chevrolet Cavalier were to fail due to alternator or starter then an OEM alternator or basic could be purchased in order to repair the automobile. The good thing about buying original equipment manufacturer automobile parts is the fact that there will generally be considered a warranty on the part that is purchased. In addition, you are usually assured that the part will work and fit the automobile on the first try.
A downside to ordering OEM automobile parts is the fact that they are generally a lot more expensive that other types of automobile parts. Whereas other auto parts may be around $50, the same automobile parts that are bought from the OEM may be just as much as $150. The purchase price makes all the difference, too, when repairing your car, so it may not automatically behoove you to purchase OEM automobile parts.
Alternatively, the other type of auto parts that can be purchased when restoring an automobile is after-market car parts, or automobile parts that are created for the same automobile by third-parties. These car parts are usually much better to run into, and more auto repair shops and retail stores generally hold after-market vehicle parts as opposed to OEM car parts. That is one of the best benefits to buying those types of automobile parts, but another is they are significantly less expensive than OEM auto parts. This was touched on in the last paragraph about OEM parts, but after-market car parts are generally 50% or more less than the original manufacturer's car parts.
All things considered, it is actually up to the person and the situation when the car is being restored. Many people choose OEM automobile parts because they will be the safest type of parts to go with, but arguments for third-party car parts are because they are much cheaper tend to be accessible. Overall, though, there are types of options and decisions to make while searching for auto parts to fix your car!
